Ann Eveyln Whitney (Konopinski)
May 19, 2026
It is with deep sorrow that we announce that our beloved mother, Ann Evelyn Whitney (Konopinski), 83, of Sweet Valley, PA, passed away peacefully at her home on May 19, 2026. Born in Nanticoke, PA on March 13, 1943, she was the daughter of Stanley and Genevieve Konopinski. She had incredible compassion for animals, as she and her husband, Gary Whitney, founded Rainbows End Greyhound Rescue which ran for decades. Besides finding new homes for hundreds of greyhounds and making many new friends along the way, she always had a house full of her own that she loved dearly. Ann also had a love for horses. She continued performing barn chores and riding well into her 70's, mostly on her beloved paint horse, Chyna. Ann and Chyna had a special bond and Chyna will miss her greatly. Ann also loved Elvis. Her car was always programmed to Elvis Radio and she dreamed of visiting Graceland. She frequently went to see a local Elvis Tribute Artist, Shawn Klush, who gave her a scarf at the last show. She also immensely enjoyed spending time with family and friends, including various trips to Dewey Beach for Greyhound "Reach the Beach" events and attending many wild animal parks with her daughters and grandchildren creating so many loving memories. She also enjoyed going to county fairs and visiting with her friends there. She leaves behind many beautiful memories and is survived by her 3 daughters: Susan Heller, Denise Wilcox and Dawn Lappano. Sons in law Barry Wilcox and Steve Lappano. 4 grandchildren: Cassandra Sutton, Stephene Wilcox, Alessandro and Elianna Lappano. 2 great grandchildren: Josiah and Caleb Sutton. Her brother, Stanley Konopinski and his wife Louise, nephews Brian and Kevin Konopinski and their spouses and children, along with numerous cousins. She is also survived by her former spouse, Robert Golobek of Nanticoke. A Celebration of Life will take place on Sunday, June 7, at Charles L. Cease Funeral Home, 634 Reyburn Rd., Shickshinny, PA 18655, from 12 Noon to 3:30 pm. Friends and family are invited to share their favorite memories.
