Carl W. Hartman

April 9, 1934 – October 22, 2025

Carl W. Hartman, 91, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family, with his beloved wife, Margaretta, by his side.

Born in Muhlenburg, Carl was the son of the late Elwood and Emily Hartman. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Calvin and Edward Hartman.

Carl was the beloved husband of Margaretta Hartman, his lifelong partner, confidant, and best friend. Together, they built a life filled with laughter, love, and countless cherished memories — a partnership that stood as a shining example of devotion, patience, and warmth. On August 28, Carl and Margaretta proudly celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary, a remarkable milestone reflecting their enduring love and commitment.

Carl was a proud and loving father to Garry Hartman (Ann) and Gale Kazmierski (Jim), and a deeply cherished grandfather to Amy Shea (Aaron) (Bryce, Conner, and Brady), Lisa Ninotti (Tino) (Natalia and Nolan), Angee Hall (Matthew) (Taylor and Carson), and Chrisse Dragon (Matthew) (Mason, Madison, and Makenna). His great-grandchildren were his greatest joy, and his eyes would light up with pride whenever they were near.

A man of many talents, Carl was known for his creativity, craftsmanship, and dedication. He and Margaretta both worked at Luzerne Outerwear for more than 30 years and later ran a cleaning service at Diamond Manufacturing, earning deep respect for their hard work and reliability. Carl also took great pride in his time at the family butcher shop.

Carl loved the simple pleasures of life — family dinners, holiday traditions, and everyday moments that became extraordinary simply because he was there. He had a rare gift for making everyone feel special, offering kindness, humor, and encouragement in every interaction.

Carl's legacy is one of love, laughter, and unwavering devotion. He taught those around him the importance of family, the power of kindness, and the beauty of living life fully and generously. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

A celebration of Carl's life will be held at the Charles L. Cease Funeral Home, 634 Reyburn Road, Shickshinny on Friday from 5–7 p.m., with a funeral service on Saturday at 11 a.m., followed by burial at Sorber Cemetery.
